Happy Lunar New Year!
Our February newsletter features a first look at a generous donation we recently accepted as well as a radio interview of our CEO David Allen.
We hope your transition into 2016 has been as great for you as it has been for us! MOJA received a vinyl record album donation from Dr. Tammy Freytag and Joel Commisso. The donation of over 600 jazz albums––dating as far back as the 1920’s––will be available for the community to enjoy as part of our educational archival program.
The record collection is the culmination of three generations of Jazz enthusiasts, starting with Freytag's grandfather, passed down to her father, and finally herself. We can’t wait for you to engage with the amazing pieces of history we now have!
In addition to the collection, we'd also like to share a piece of MOJA history. Back in 2012, CEO David Allen met with Mal Sharpe from KCSM to discuss harmony, melody, and their relationship with architecture.
From pondering what a house designed with a Thelonious Monk song in mind would look like to a conversation with Dizzy Gillespie back in the 1980’s, it’s an invigorating look into early aspects that influenced the inception of the Museum of Jazz and Art.
